The ‘New Energies’ Pau Grand Prix will be sponsored by Repsol this year. The historic races, which have been held since 1933, are this year focused on “new energies for our mobility” and will feature innovation and new technology. With this agreement, Repsol continue to show their commitment to providing solutions focused on sustainability and applying them to high-level motorsport competitions. The energy company are advancing along the path of decarbonising their processes and products, in order to have net zero emissions by 2050.<\/p>\n
Part of the Pau Grand Prix are the races in the French Formula 4 championship, where Repsol supply the vehicles with a 100% renewable biofuel for use throughout the 2022 season. It is the first competition in the world to use 100% biofuel in all single-seaters.<\/p>\n
Repsol will supply more than 30,000 litres of advanced biofuels, manufactured and developed at the Repsol Technology Lab in Madrid, which meet the sustainability criteria established by the European Renewable Energy Directive (RED), as well as the parameters of the ‘Advanced Sustainable Fuel’ specification set out by the FIA.<\/p>\n
Among the other competitions that will take place in the French city of Pau are the FIA WTCR -with 65% low-carbon fuel-, the FIA ETCR for electric cars, the Adour-Oc\u00e9an Biofuel Cup by Twin’Cup and the Electric Racing Academy, the first championship focused on young drivers to use electric single-seaters.<\/p>\n
Parallel to the competitions, on Friday, May 6th, the event will host a conference dedicated to applying the energy transition to mobility, which will include the participation of European commission members, ministers from different European governments and company representatives, including Luis Cabra, Director General of Energy Transition, Technology, Institutional and Deputy to the CEO of Repsol. In addition, there will be a ‘New Energies Laboratory’ and a ‘New Mobility Village’ with numerous demonstrations of prototypes of new technologies.<\/p>\n
The sponsorship of the Pau Grand Prix, as well as the agreement with the French F4 series, are part of Repsol’s global commitment to motorsport. The Spanish company are involved in various sponsorships, and this year have supported Isidre Esteve in the 2022 Dakar, where they have jointly developed the biofuel with which the driver has competed. In MotoGP, where the company sponsor the factory Honda team, following the guidelines of series organisers Dorna, Repsol are working so that by 2024 the fuels used by the teams are composed of at least 40% non-fossil fuel, with the objective that in 2027 all motorcycles have this specification at 100%.<\/p>\n
Repsol’s relationship with the world of motorsport stretches back for over 50 years, in which the company has developed its products with the aim of obtaining the best level of performance.
